Building surveys are suitable for all properties, whatever their age or construction. They are recommended if you plan to purchase, renovate or alter a building in any way, or if the property has already been subject to extensive alterations. The survey, which can be tailor made to address your individual concerns, provides a record of the construction and materials used, a broad appraisal of their condition, advice on necessary repair works or modifications required to remedy defects, and disadvantages in relation to today's recommended standards. A building survey should not be confused with a valuation undertaken by a prospective lender to determine the amount and terms of a mortgage offer. It is also more comprehensive than a homebuyer's survey and valuation report (HSV).
